We put our little washing up bowl ponds in place this week. We put some gravel in the bottom, then topped them up with water. Our plan is to add some plants to them in the spring, when the weather is warmer. Also, Mrs Male had got some lovely conifer trees so we could make a better fence for our reading area. The gardeners put them into large pots and we hope you agree that the reading area is looking very smart now.
We decided to remove some of the conifers from the pots around our reading area this week. Sadly a few of them had died, but the lavender has been super, so we moved that into the centre of the pots. It was heavy and dirty work, but the gardeners rose to the challenge. It helped that we were covered in lavender so we all smelt lovely by the end 🙂
This week we had lots of little jobs to do in order to get our garden ready for the spring. The first job was to start planting out some seeds into trays for our meadow. We will be putting some seeds straight into the ground, but have been advised that it’s best to give some a head start by planting them in trays first.
Meanwhile A, S and Miss Cooper got started on putting our little greenhouse together. Awesome teamwork ladies, well done!
We were particularly excited today as Mrs Kedwards treated us to some new gardening kit, including spades, forks and gloves. Everyone felt it was very important to coordinate the tools with the gloves. Thanks Mrs K!
Finally we needed to start potting some conifers for our reading area. We also added a lavender plant to the pot so it would smell nice as well as look good. This was an idea the school council came up with so that we could have a quiet area of the playground sectioned off where children can sit and read.
